Diligent Student, Ricky Mondello

I was in a local newspaper for doing virtually nothing! Rather, my silhouette was.

I received a letter today from a New York assemblyman with the newspaper clipping attached. That’s very nice, but he will remain anonymous. I don’t just give away my Google juice.

SUNY Schools

About time I did a real college post, right? You can expect a lot of them in the next few months. Rest assured.

From the beginning of my college search, I had (perhaps mistakenly) written off SUNY (State University of New York) schools as something I wouldn’t want to look into. A few people had told me that they’re ‘beneath me’. To stir things up, the other day a friend of mine posed the questions, “What SUNY’s are you looking at?” I told her none, and she said I should find one as backup.

I’m still working with only three schools right now, Lafayette, RPI, and UCONN. As I begin the application process, I’m desperately trying to find more. I believe I’ll have luck shortly, and I’ll be posting my research progress this weekend.

Today’s question: Should I be looking at SUNY’s, in your opinion? If so, which is the gem of the system? I have my own gut feeling on this issue, but I enjoy feedback.

Ahmadinejad Address

There’s been a lot of talk this week about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad‘s presence in the United States. I don’t usually do politics at Exposay, but I think everyone should hear what he had to say at Columbia, specifically relating to Iran’s nuclear advances and relations with the United States. Keep in mind the picture being painted of Iran in the media today, and similar instances of nation demoralizing in the past.

Worst Trade-In Ever

I was young, I was foolish. I was teetering on the edge of never playing video games again. I traded in most of my old video games for store credit at GameStop (also EB Games). I have $156.46 of store credit, and I’ve just realized that I have to use it before November, otherwise it’s gone. I planned on buying games for my sister and having her pay me back with cash, but she’s not playing video games now, either.

The credit isn’t directly redeemable, and I have a month to think of a clever plot to regain this money. Hummm… Anyone purchasing any PC or video games soon? If so, get in contact with me.

RSS, SAT, OMG!

I believe that doing a little of something at a time is better than a lot of it at once. Of course, I occasionally don’t follow the idea. I sometimes cram for tests, prepare for meetings at the last minute, or complete projects the night before they’re due. One thing I do daily, however, is prepare for the SAT.

The CollegeBoard, which for now I will reserve judgement of, offers a service called “The Official SAT Question of the Day”. It’s exactly like it sounds, but I have a major criticism of it. It doesn’t use RSS for its questions.

RSS, Really Simple Syndication, allows one to “subscribe” to content on the web. That is, rather than a person manually checking for updates, one’s web browser, or an online service like Google Reader does it instead. Rather than checking 17 different sites daily, Google Reader tells me which ones have updates, saving me time. I even put a bookmarklet titled “Next” in my browser to quickly ‘shuffle‘ between my favorite sites.

CollegeBoard, put some RSS into your Question of the Day! It’d be so much more usable for people who pride themselves in online efficiency. You do support online efficiency, don’t you?

Math is Delicious

A t-shirt I ordered came in the mail today!

I love it! It’s from the amazing web comic, Questionable Content, which has been monopolizing my life right now. In the last three days, I’ve gone through more than 400 comics. It’s really entertaining, witty, and intelligent. I can’t wait to catch up.
