Accepted to Lafayette College

I just received a big envelope from the lovely little college in Easton and I’m happy to say I’ve been accepted to Lafayette College.

That is all.

Perspective

I had an opportunity the other night to sit down with my sister, some friends I’m currently in school with, some friends who have gone off to college, and a few acquittances. We sat around a living room and talked about the past – relationships, jokes, fiascos, whatever.

The night was miraculously uplifting. We all laughed about things that really bothered us at the time at the time they happened, but now seem insignificant. As we joked, I picked up the perspectives of people who through circumstance or by choice, I did not know while the events were happening. The re-realization of my limited knowledge in those emotional times gave me a silent epiphany of sorts:

Plenty of the people we write off as “not good” are in fact only opposed to us by circumstance, not by their own choice or character.

In other words, some people actually are “good”, you just didn’t know it yet. Sit down with people you’ve never gotten a chance to understand. Reach across the aisle, retire a stereotype, and connect with others… or at least try.

Surgeon Visit

Yesterday (Friday), I missed half of school to visit my surgeon. It was a quick visit, and a very positive one. He removed some inner packing in my ear, gave me a prescription for some ear drops, and took my questions. He said it looks good in there and that I’m likely on my way to a good recovery. I’ll see him again in two weeks.

Oh, I can take traditional showers again!

Domain Changes (Updated)

I’m proud to announce:

Exposay.net >>> RichardMondello.com

I’ve given it a lot of thought and I’ve concluded that in the long term, moving to a domain that contains my name is a good move for my branding and professionalism. It’s also easier for me to say, “RichardMondello.com” than “Exposay.net”. Exposay is a tough word – actually, it isn’t a word.

I’m keeping the Exposay.net domain name. I might recycle it in the future for a project of some sort, because I still think it’s a cool word.  As of now, the old domain is 301 redirecting to the new domain, which is the most search engine friendly way of doing it.

Trying to Heal

I’ve been trying to heal, but it’s been hard.

The day of my surgery was Wednesday, February 27th. I took Thursday and Friday off from school, but went back in on Monday and Tuesday. But, those days killed me. Walking around the school and being active made me exhausted and restarted the leakage from my ear. So, I stayed home this last Wednesday, February 5th. Going back to school on Thursday (today) started my leakage and exhaustion again.

I’m in a quandary. To stay home and waste time or go to school and get hurt?

I believe I’ll go to school and severely modify my behavior to reduce wear and tear. We shall see.

Tomorrow, however, I have an appointment with my surgeon to remove my stitches and see how I’m healing. I’ll post more tomorrow.

Microsoft Acting Cool

I’m very critical of Microsoft. I don’t like the company’s operating systems or business tactics. Oddly, Microsoft is up to no good recently. Here we go.

WorldWide Telescope

Here’s some copy from the WorldWide Telescope website:

The WorldWide Telescope (WWT) is a rich visualization environment that functions as a virtual telescope, bringing together imagery from the best ground and space telescopes in the world for a seamless, guided exploration of the universe.

WorldWide Telescope, created with Microsoft’s high-performance Visual Experience Engine™, enables seamless panning and zooming across the night sky blending terabytes of images, data, and stories from multiple sources over the Internet into a media-rich, immersive experience.

Although WorldWide Telescope is only for Windows, I’m very excited about the application.

Internet Explorer 8 Beta

Everyone knows that I hate Internet Explorer for two main reasons. The first reason is that it’s light on features. The second reason is that it has horrible support of web standards. Internet Explorer 8 is an attempt to rectify those issues and I commend the Internet Explorer team for doing so. Stay tuned.

Singularity

Singularity is a research operating system with its source released. It’s not open source, but it’s a step. I look forward to playing with this software in the future.

I think everyone shares in my hope that Microsoft keeps making moves like these.
