Dover Carnival, Night Three

This post was written at same time as my next post, which has a very different mood. It didn’t feel right to have them grouped.

Night three of the Dover Carnival was relatively normal. The parade was entertaining and the carnival itself was packed to capacity. I spent the whole night catching up with lots of my favorite people, which was great.I\'m Fired Up

At the parade, I saw a young man engaged in some political campaigning. Prompted by my new Barack Obama t-shirt, we had a chat. Although the young man and I are on different “sides of the fence”, we agreed it was refreshing to see another young person energized by politics.

I’ll have news about some political campaigning of my own coming up soon.

Painting the Driveway

There’s a little tradition at Dover High School – graduating seniors can elect to paint a mural on the high school’s driveway. It’s a great way to leave a mark until it’s paved over sometime in the next year. With the help of a few friends, I painted what I consider to be an awesome driveway mural. I did it a few weeks back; in fact, I was up there the night before graduation.

Yes We Can!

That’s right, folks. With this post, I’m officially (on the blog) declaring my support for Barack Obama in the presidential election of 2008.

This blog hasn’t been all that political since the summer months, despite my heavy involvement in politics. That’ll change over the next few months, but only when I have some original perspective to offer. I don’t want to recycle material from mainstream media or the blogosphere.

The day I turned 18, I registered to vote. I’m happy to say that I finally received my voting card in the mail today.

In my high school, I’ve heard a lot of confusion about registering. Some people think they have to go to the town hall or the DMV, and others think they have to go online somewhere.

That somewhere is Rock the Vote. Click that link, select “register to vote”, and fill out the form. Once the form is filled out, print it, sign it, and mail it in. In fewer than two months, you’ll have a voter registration card in the mail. That’s it!

Yuck, I just used “blogosphere” in a post. Where’s my soap?

Ahmadinejad Address

There’s been a lot of talk this week about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad‘s presence in the United States. I don’t usually do politics at Exposay, but I think everyone should hear what he had to say at Columbia, specifically relating to Iran’s nuclear advances and relations with the United States. Keep in mind the picture being painted of Iran in the media today, and similar instances of nation demoralizing in the past.

Video.

Politico

I have a metric ton of reading to do this summer for my AP courses coming up (European History, English, Biology, Calculus). However, I’ve been so busy that I haven’t really had the time to get through much of the work. Despite this setback, however, I’ve been brushing up on my political reading. It’s quasi-reading, really, since I’ve been listening to Audiobooks while driving to and from the Academy.

My selections thus far have been Al Gore‘s, The Assault on Reason, and Barack Obama‘s, The Audacity of Hope. The two works shouldn’t be treated as a single unit by any stretch of the imagination; although I’m grouping them in this post, they’re vastly different in purpose, content, and style.

Michael Moore Just Got Served

…a subpoena, for the Cuba scene in SiCKO. Here’s the full story.

Here’s an exercise: think of every contemporary muckraker that you know of. If you can think of more than a few, I’d be interested in knowing in the comments. It’s typical that Moore, one of the revitalizing journalists of our time, is being received this way by the Bush administration. Perhaps history will treat him kindly, depending on where the universal health care issue goes in 2008 and the future.
