Let Us Begin with Courage

Okay, here’s where I’m applying to:

  • RPI
  • Lafayette
  • Lehigh
  • Tufts
  • MIT

Progress:

  • Common App essay, a profound experience, finished.
  • Mini-essays for the first three schools, almost finished.
  • Essay for RPI, an influential person, almost finished.
  • Everything else, sized up, but very little work finished.

For MIT, I need to have taken a science SAT2. On December 1st I’ll be taking a Chemistry subject test. As of now, I’m studying for it. My deadline to get everything in (for Dover) is December 7th

Right now, my life consists of writing and chemistry. With some help, I’ll be alright. Lofty goals, eh?

Supplement Fun

I was looking at the Common App supplement for the University of Pennsylvania and read this:

6. (Optional) As the Admissions staff reads your folder, it is always gratifying for us to be able to match an application with tthe face of someone who we may have met during the year. To this end, please attach a recent photograph.

“Tthe” is not a typo on my part, I copied and pasted the text.

Does anyone find them wanting a recent photograph unsettling? Although I put myself out there, even using my face on a recent blog banner, I do. A face, perhaps, introduces bias.

What Do You Want?

If I didn’t tell you personally, my SAT scores increased somewhat. Suddenly, the entire face of the admissions game has changed for me. One would think higher scores would make the process easier. Not true, it’s much harder now.

My problem before has been not knowing what I want. Now, I have a better idea (small-medium campus, strong academics, engineering with solid liberal arts), but the higher score equates to higher stress.

It’s going to be a fun ride, folks. I’ll keep you posted.

SAT Scores!

My SAT scores came in this morning. I could not be happier. :D

Common Application Additional Info

Include any additional information that you would like to provide… The file cannot exceed 500 KB in size and should be in .doc, .wpd, .rtf, .xls, .pdf, or .txt format.

Does anyone know of any strategies to get the most out of the Additional Info box of the Common Application online form? Would you put a résumé there, something else, or nothing at all? I feel that a one-page high school résumé PDF is appropriate, but would love to stand corrected.

SUNY Debate

The debate going on in the SUNY thread is fantastic. Check it out, voice an opinion.
